Each month lovely Lynne from Lily’s Quilts hosts a linky party for those of us blogger’s with less than 50 followers. For those of you who are new – welcome!! Thanks for popping by!! I hope you like what you find and stick around a while. You can also follow along via Facebook if that’s your thang!
I’ve been quilting for almost a year now on my little Ellie the Elna. The other important fact you might like to know is that almost 2 months ago, my little family upped and moved from Australia to Japan for three years for my husband’s job. So I’ve been enjoying the sudden expansion of fabric availability – from cheap and readily-available designers (and friends) to Japanese silks and cottons. Our quieter lifestyle has also afforded me more sewing time, as evidenced by me getting more done in the past two months than I have in the whole year I think!
Here’s just a selection of what I’ve been working on in the past month (from L-R) – a Japanese stitchery, my first lined zipper pouch, catching up on In Color Order’s HST BOM, my first paper piecing pattern and the Fat Quarter Shop’s Designer BOM!
And now it’s July… where has this year gone?! The first few months dragged on so much with all the preparations and work that had to be done to move to Japan, and suddenly we’ve been here 2 months and it’s July?! I’m hoping to finish:
- Transport I-spy quilt – Even though it’s summer here and my son won’t need it until winter, it’s been almost a year in the works. Left to do is piece the rows together, add a border, piece a backing and quilt.
- Sewing machine cover – Using my now finished paper-pieced sewing machine!
- Japanese stitchery – And make it into a pillow cover.
- Pillow covers – We are in desperate need of pillows for our couch! But of course I refuse to buy covers, so I need to bite the procrastination bullet and make some.
- July’s BOMs
- Two UFOs – one is a mini quilt from Little Apples that just needs basting and quilting, the other is a throw quilt in Good Fortune that I need to finish piecing the backing, buy batting and quilt.

Everything looks so good and you’ve done such a good job on your first paper pieced block, well done. Japan sounds like so much fun, I’m so jealous of the wonderful fabric shopping you can do
